Design of a community engagement and social management plan

The challenge

The development of projects in territories with the presence of local communities requires the establishment of clear mechanisms for dialogue, social management and conflict prevention. In this context, the project required the structuring of a Community Engagement and Management Plan to understand the social dynamics of the territory, identify key stakeholders and anticipate potential social risks associated with project implementation. The challenge was to design a community management strategy that would facilitate interaction between the project and the communities within the area of influence, strengthening communication, participation and trust-building in the territory.

Our intervention

Antroproyectos developed the Community Engagement and Management Plan through a social and territorial assessment of the project’s area of influence, the identification and mapping of community and institutional stakeholders, and the design of an engagement strategy aimed at strengthening dialogue with local communities. The process also included the development of territorial intervention protocols, participation mechanisms and communication tools for the preventive management of social risks.

Methodology

The intervention combined territorial analysis, social research and field data collection to understand the community dynamics within the area of influence. Based on this process, operational tools for community engagement, territorial communication strategies and guidelines for the social management of the project were developed.

Results

The project enabled the structuring of an operational community engagement plan aimed at proactively managing the interaction between the project and communities in the territory. The instruments developed facilitated the identification of social risks, the definition of community dialogue channels and the planning of social management strategies for the project.

What we did differently

Antroproyectos approached community engagement as a strategic component of the project’s social viability, integrating territorial analysis, understanding of community dynamics and the design of operational tools applicable in the field. This approach transformed the plan into a practical tool for the project’s social management.

Generated impact

The project strengthened the project’s social management capacity by establishing a clear community engagement strategy, contributing to conflict prevention and the development of sustainable relationships with communities in the territory.
